GOING FOR GOLD

A SEMINAR ON GOLD IN CONTEMPORARY
AUSTRALIAN CRAFTS

SYDNEY MINT MUSEUM & HYDE PARK
BARRACKS SEMINAR ROOM

SATURDAY 12 OCTOBER 1996 - 9.30 AM - 4.30 PM



A wonderful opportunity to hear contemporary practicioners discuss their
work, compare studio and
commercial approaches to jewellery, see a gilder and a printmaker
demonstrate their art, and enjoy a guided
tour of the special displays and exhibitions at the Sydney Mint Museum.

The seminar will be chaired by Grace Cochrane, Curator of Contemporary
Australian Crafts at the
Powerhouse Museum.  Speakers: Wendy Parker lecturer in jewellery, design
centre, Sydney Institute of
Technology, Geoff Tombs, judge of the Jewellers Association of Australia
awards, Alan Peascod, ceramicist
and Brian Hirst, glassmaker (both of whose work is currently represented in
the exhibition Gods, gowns and
dental crowns at the Sydney Mint Museum.  Demonstrating craftsperson: gilder
Ken Hobson, also
represented in the exhibition.

A special feature of the day will be an opportunity to view the Jewellers
Association of Australia design
awards.  There will also be guided tours of Gods, gowns and dental crowns
and a special in-house
demonstration Thin-skinned gold, on the nature and uses of the metal.
