The Southeastern Museums Conference presents the interactive workshop,
"Leadership Through Diversity: Building Audience and Strengthening the
Workforce for Tomorrow's Museums," at their annual meeting on Wednesday,
October 16, 8:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in Richmond, Virginia at the Marriot
Hotel, 500 E. Broad St., Salon A.

This unique workshop is based on museum experiences involving leadership
and diversity issues (diversity being defined inclusively as all the
characteristics that make us unique individuals). Attendees will examine
dimensions of diversity, explore museum exhibition responses to diversity,
engage in goal-setting exercises, and strategize action steps to create
leadership responses within themselves.

The workshop benefits individuals and institutions by improving assessment
and strategy skills for incorporating the benefits of diversity into museum
operations. Handouts provide resources and factual data regarding museums
and diversity in the new millennium.

"Leadership through Diversity" is provided by the Smithsonian Center for
Education and Museum Studies and the Diversity Coalition of the American
Association of Museums.

Sign-up for "Leadership through Diversity" now by contacting
[log in to unmask] The workshop fee is $50 and includes morning and
afternoon refreshments. The deadline for registration is Friday, October
11. (Conference registration is not necessary to participate in the
workshop, however if you wish to participate in other annual meeting
activities, you must register and pay the requisite fees.)
