Hi-

I have never heard of asking permission for this
either.

When I wrote my master's disstertation, the
bibliographies of secondary sources were important
resources for me, since they led me on to other useful
documents. I did not have to request permission from
any authors or journals to use the bibliography!

The very nature of a bibliography is to acknowledge
the sources and authors of the material you use.

I, in turn, acknowledged the sources I used, and my
bibliography is there for someone else to use as a
resource and to acknowledge in return.

I don't think a compliation of suggestions counts as a
bibliography - but you could certainly acknowledge
that the list was compiled in part from suggestions
from the Museum-L mailing list and archives.
