Hi Joy!

Based on my meager experience, I have yet to find a museum
prepared to pay travel expenses. Most museums will pay all
(or some of) such expenses for higher level positions
(director, deputy/assistant director, chief financial
officer, etc.) . . . but the lower down you go, the more you
have to invest in making your career work for you.

Nevertheless, that a candidate lives a long way away should
not be a factor in the interview process, unless specific
deadlines have been set that make long-distance arrangements
impossible. (For example, someone quits or is terminated in
the midst of major projects and must be replaced ASAP.)
After all, if someone has applied, the implication is they
are prepared to pay travel expenses. Additionally, an
initial interview - to determine if a candidate is suitable
for further consideration - could always be held over the
telephone.

Best wishes in your job search!

Sincerely,

Jay Heuman, Visitor & Volunteer Services Coordinator
