Exciting Opportunity!
Part-time Educator
 
Located in Salem, Oregon; A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village provides
informal educational programming for children in the sciences, arts and
humanities.  Our programs have a great reputation throughout Western
Oregon and we anticipate broadening our reach to diverse audiences and
increasing participation in our programs.  We currently serve 20,000
children through a variety of on-site and outreach programs.
 
Key Job Elements:
A. C. Gilbert's Discovery Village seeks part time educators who will
teach educational programs/classes in science, the arts and humanities.
The part-time educator is responsible for teaching classes on-site and
in-schools, after-school and holiday workshops, Discovery Nights, summer
camps, outreach programs, and other educational programming, as well as
all setup/clean up and research for programs.
 
Ideal candidate must:
·        Experience working with elementary, middle and/or high school
students, preferably in a school, museum, or informal education setting.
Course work in education, museum education, history, science, art or
relevant field required. Degree and/or certification in Education,
History, Museums, Science and/or Art desired but not required.
·        Comfortable speaking in front of groups and articulate; good
sense of humor, enthusiastic, energetic and engaging. 
·        Understanding of and familiarity with interactive teaching
theories and methods, and hands-on learning
·        Demonstrate understanding of and ability to implement
age-appropriate activities and programs in teaching
·        Good research skills
·        Ability to work independently and as a team player
·        Strong written and verbal communication skills
·        Flexibility and respect for diversity
·        Maturity and self-motivation
·        Must have either own car or reliable modes of transportation
 
All candidates must be able to ascend and descend stairs and have the
ability to lift 25 pounds.  All candidates must pass State and Federal
fingerprint screening, have a good driving record and insurance or have
reliable alternative modes of transportation. Bilingual candidates
