Whenever I am scanning photos, I always scan them first as a relatively
high-res TIFF (300 or 400 dpi), then save a second copy as a JPEG. That
way, if I need to have a better quality copy for printing or creating
slides, I have it. Now, this is only for documentation photos, that is,
documenting an event or exhibit. When I scan fine art photos, I always
make sure to have a much higher resolution TIFF (600 to 1200 dpi). Why
scan something twice or more, when one scan can be saved in several
different formats? It takes maybe 15 extra seconds to do a JPEG after
the TIFF, and I think it's worth it to have both versions.
