Oh, come on! I never said that!

Just because a museum is unaccredited doesn't mean that it is ABSOLUTELY
REQUIRED to have less information on accessioning & deaccessioning. All
I mean to imply, for those of you who are so sensitive, was that a
museum that IS accredited is held to a standard of knowing about
deaccessioning. I did not mean, say, nor do I believe that an
institution that doesn't have the time (or isn't ready) to go through
the accrediting process (or even one that fails along the way...) is
EXEMPT from having knowledge of the legal issues surrounding the
process. What kind of logic is THAT?

I simply mean to say that, based on the information that we have
heretofore been given about the situation, there is probable cause to
suspect that deaccessioning law might not be the original senders forte.

Perhaps a conversation about deaccessioning law would be a little more
interesting to some of us than arguments about religion versus natural
selection? (And I'm not saying that YOU said that, just making the
comment in general.)

Hold on a sec, we're unaccredited, and I would never do that!
Lack of accreditation doesn't mean you're not professional -- just that
you haven't started the process, which frankly we don't have time to do
right now.

It seems to me that it's an unaccredited museum that just needs a little
guidance in getting the whole thing straightened out. Just by the way it
was handled and the casual nature of the mailing, it makes me wonder if
there might not be a bigger legal issue behind it... Such as improper
deaccessioning.

OOPS, Sorry if I gave the impression that I would send anything but a
polite, educational letter. The museum is a county museum and the
curator probably sent the package in good faith (textile artifacts by
the way).
There are nine staff members and a good web site soooo......
