Just to add a bit to the debate, a few notes.

Web pages need to be focused on the user requirements. Museums often have
considerable expertise at this, so it is a relatively small step to
producing your own home pages.

Web page packages are often inefficient adding to file size and down load times.

Hyper Text Markup Language is relatively easy to learn and use. It is worth
noting that different browsers read have different capabilities to read
documents. I don't remember the number of times I've failed in attempts to
down load music files because of incompatibility of software. So keep it
simple. Also be aware that many people do not have the capability to down
load images - especially common in the education sector.

The number one advantage of doing your own site is that you can continually
up date it and encourage repeat visits.

I particularly liked the comment that the web can be a win - win situation.
But remember your site is in competition with a huge number of other sites,
so people have to be able to find it, download it, and use it. Computer
buffs are sometimes not good at communicating - try looking at some computer
mags for examples of flashy production that makes the publication really
difficult to use. It has got to be better to have a relatively small web
site that really attracts than something large and unwieldy.
