DOCENT COORDINATOR
Regular, Full-Time Position

JOIN OUR DYNAMIC TEAM AS WE EMBARK ON THE MOST EXCITING TIME IN THE ASIAN
ART MUSEUM’S HISTORY.

As we prepare for the move to the New Asian, we are seeking a highly
organized, motivated, resourceful individual to serve as primary liaison
between the museum docents and staff; to provide administrative support to
the museum docents; and to assist docents in planning and coordinating
docent-related programming and events.  The nature of the work requires
excellent administrative and interpersonal skills, and the ability to
develop and maintain effective, positive relationships with a wide variety
of people.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1.      Provides administrative support to docents and other Education Department
volunteers; develops mailing lists, files, rosters and correspondence.

2.      Disseminates information to docents on current exhibitions, gallery
changes and programs, including press releases, label copy,
exhibition/gallery schedules; assembles information binders with background
information on exhibitions and gallery-related subjects.

3.      Facilitates docent training and preparation to give talks and tours.
Schedules training sessions and tours. Works with docents to plan New Asian
tour program. Works with Community Speakers’ program to develop effective
talks in the community. Arranges/conducts training sessions designed to
improve docent communication skills.

4.      Processes public tour requests for special exhibitions and gallery group
tours; works closely with other Education Department staff to ensure smooth
coordination of space and resources.

5.      Assists docents in planning and coordinating docent-related programming
and events, including training sessions, gallery walk-throughs, meetings and
parties.

6.       Processes space requests for docent events; makes arrangements for
speakers and presenters; processes slide and slide duplication requests;
arranges audio-visual support for docent activities, including taping of
training sessions, dissemination of audio-visual materials, etc.

7.      Assembles information, edits, contributes to, and distributes a bimonthly
newsletter to docents in web and print formats.

8.      Receives incoming calls to department; assists in other education
programs as needed.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

·       Two (2) years of related work experience including experience in
non-profit sector working with volunteers; or an equivalent combination of
education, training and experience.

·       Knowledge of Asian cultures/languages desirable.

·       Strong computer skills, including PC platform; MS Office required.
Filemaker Pro and Pagemaker preferred.

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills; outstanding
administrative and organizational skills.

·       Ability to: display good judgment; problem solve; exercise tact and
diplomacy at all times.

·       Ability to: actively promote educational programs through the development
of positive working relationships internal and external to the Museum;
successfully sort multiple priorities; maintain a sense of perspective and
humor while working under pressure; give great attention to detail and
accuracy.

·       Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours.

COMPENSATION

$32,260 - $38,750 annually
(Note: This position is represented by SEIU 790.)
