General Manager for Visitor Services

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks a General Manager for Visitor Services.  This position is responsible for the overall management of Visitor Services in the Main Building and The Cloisters, including admissions, information desk, telephone operators, and tourist services and visits.  In conjunction with the Senior Vice President for External Affairs, to whom this manager reports, this position provides strategic planning related to Visitor Services.  Primary responsibilities and duties include: overseeing the hiring and management of all Visitor Services staff, including evaluations, disciplinary actions, and training; overseeing adequate scheduling of staff for regular shifts, special VIP collections access, and special exhibitions; creating and implementing Tourism marketing strategies worldwide; acting as senior on-site troubleshooter, providing immediate response to operational issues; managing the development and maintenance of budgets for all Visitor Services operations; being responsible for the development and ongoing practice of customer service training; coordinating all special admission ticketing; ensuring all staff follow appropriate cash handling policies and procedures; developing overall attendance projections and managing the accurate tracking of museum attendance, exhibition attendance, event attendance, attendance demographics, and reporting; collaborating with the Finance and Marketing departments to review statistical information and analyzing trends; overseeing the implementation of Museum signage, coordinating with the Design department and relevant curatorial offices; monitoring the effectiveness of the main switchboard and recommending procedural, personnel and equipment changes as necessary, and other related duties as required.

Successful candidates will possess 5-10 years of management experience. Experience with museum, visitor, tourism promotion, and/or membership programs, preferred.  Must have statistical analysis and forecasting experience.  Must have strong leadership skills and ability to motivate. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to be an articulate, knowledgeable and respectful representative of Museum. Bachelor's degree in museum management, communications, marketing, and/or public relations, or equivalent experience, required. Excellent computer skills are required.  Familiarity with Point Of Sale systems is preferred.
