The Cincinnati merger is a reaction to the financial woes of The
Museum Center.  For those who did not catch the Smithsonian article a
couple years back, the two museums received tax money to move into
the old railroad terminal.  The building was considered a white
elephant, but now it is pretty obvious that it is a black hole when
it comes to upkeep and daily operations.
 
The merger, although these things are always difficult, will be a
positive move.  It will allow both institutions the money and time to
do what they do best.......museum work.  They have been tied up in an
administration and financial nightmare far too long.  I would expect a
year of disorganization, but, knowing the people who work at both
institutions, they will be up and back in first place in no time.
 
For those of you who are familar with the quality of the cave and the
ice age exhibit, you understand what I am typing.  For those who
haven't seen them yet....you should.

The recent AASLH Dispatch has a short story on the merger
between the Cincinnati Historical Society and the Cincinnati
Museum of Natural History.  Does anyone know anything more
about the details of the arrangement?  or what the implications
will be for the organizational structure & staffing?
