        RALEIGH, NC--On March 7, 1998, in Philadelphia, at the annual conference
of the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA), the 19th Annual
George Wittenborn Memorial Book Awards were presented to these exemplary
1997 publications:
·Laurence King Publishers with Alan Marcuson for IKAT: Silks of Central
Asia by Kate Fitz Gibbon and Andrew Hale.
·Hudson Hills Press with the Madison Art Center, Wisconsin for Printed
Stuff: Prints, Posters and Ephemera by Claes Oldenburg. A Catalogue
Raisonné 1958-1996 by Richard H. Axsom and David Platzker.
·Musée d'Art de Joliette for Raymonde April: Les Fleuves invisibles by
Nicole Gingras.
        An Honorable Mention Award for an outstanding reference publication was
given to
·University of Toronto Press for Canadian Film and Video: A Bibliography
and Guide to the Literature; Film et vidéo canadiens: Bibliographie
analytique sur le cinéma et la vidéo. By Loren R. Lerner.
        Established in 1981 to honor the memory of the premier New York art book
dealer and publisher, the George Wittenborn Memorial Book Awards are given
annually to outstanding North American art publications which represent the
highest standards in content, design and construction.
        In addition, three publications received a Special Mention by the
committee this year:
·Los Angeles County Museum of Art with Harry N. Abrams for exiles +
emigrés: The 
Flight of European Artists from Hitler, by Stephanie Barron and Sabine
Eckmann.
·Yale University Press and The Mariners Museum for A Maritime Album: 100
Photographs and their Stories by John Szarkowski and Richard Benson.
·Anchorage Press for Italian Pavements: Patterns in Space, by Kim Williams.
        Nineteenth Annual George Wittenborn Memorial Book Award Committee:

Université du Québec à Montréal; Rosemary Haddad, Canadian Centre for
