Dear Jan: The National Archives of Canada produced an excellent
bibliography on "Conservation of Photographic Materials: A Basic Reading
List" {compiled by Klaus Hendriks and Anne Whitehurst}, 1988. The
address is National Archives of Canada, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa,
Ontario K1A 0N3 telephone: 613-995-5138.

It includes 11 separate
sections: History of Photography, Basic Photographic Technology,
Structure and Properties of Photographic Materials, Identification and
Dating of Photographic Records, Conservation of Photographic Materials,
Duplication and Copying, Processing of Black and White Films and Papers,
Colour Photographic Materials, Conservation Treatments, Organization of
Photographs, and Publications by the American National Standards
Institute on the Preservation and Storage of Photographic Materials.

You're bound to find something good in this bibliography. You can also
find excellent how-to books from the Society for American Archivists.
