Amen. Consider use of toxic substances as a very last resort
only. This kind of problem should be tackled as a segment of an
overall "IPM" - "Integrated Pest Management" program. The CoOL
homepage will take you to a good paper on this by the Chicora
Foundation; also one by John Burke on "Materials & Equipment
for Anoxic 'Fumigation' [that term is problematic in context],"
and the priceless paper by Vinod Daniel, "Eradication of Insect
Pests Using Nitrogen," _WAAC_ 15 (3), Sept. 1993, 15-19, which
is also an "anoxic" process.
Wish I could give you more cites, as there is a large
literature, especially print - but we begin moving this whole
place up the street next Monday (gasp!) & so I have taken my
whole office library home for the duration.
