Beth, you are not alone. I'm beginning to become
concerned, though hope that persistence and patience
will pay off. I live in New York, have paid
experience working for 3 galleries in San Francisco
and one non-profit here in New York, mostly
assistantships with other projects. I've been looking
for a while now and cannot seem to get past a handful
of interviews.

One thing that I can say, though, is that you must be
absolutely polished and know what job you're applying
to, how your experience fits into that position (even
if you have to dig kinda deep). That much has to come
out in the cover letter, let a lone the interview.

I am learning as I go and get turned down. One more
piece of advice is that the career books for other
careers do not apply to the arts field. Common sense
does, but I blew an interview today because I didn't
ware a suit (something that I read was okay to do,
against my better judgment) and I wasn't specific
about why I'm qualified for the job. I have a feeling
that there are a lot of applicants for any job in the
field. The institution has its pick.

Hang in there. I'm sure that there are a lot of us
out there.
