Hello Museum L list members

Allow me to introduce myself; I am the Managing Director of the Museum of Underwater Archaeology (MUA). I just joined this list and I’m looking forward to the discussions and announcements generated by this group.

The MUA is non profit organization dedicated to assisting the professional, student, and avocational underwater archaeological community. We encourage those individuals to present the results of their research online in order to reach as wide an audience as possible. We do this by working with archaeologists to create online museum style exhibits that explain the historical background of the research topic, the methodology used to investigate it, and any findings they are prepared to report. At the moment we have full exhibits on the CSS Alabama, the British Sloop Industry, and A Children’s Introduction to Underwater Archaeology.

Recent additions to the site include an “In The Field” section that provides brief updates on current projects. New postings to this area occur frequently. The MUA also features an associated blog that covers issues related to creating this type of website including discussions on web design, accessibility issues, and new research topics.

Future projects include adding research tools such as searchable databases, bibliographies, and archives. We hope you’ll take a moment to visit the site and give us your impressions. What’s more we hope you’ll help consider exhibiting with us or even just posting descriptions of your work. Our goal is to help our colleagues reach out to the public, get them excited about the work we all do, and encourage an appreciation for submerged cultural resources. We hope you’ll join us in this effort.

Best regards,

Kurt Knoerl
Managing Director
