We have 3 (three) internships to fill in the Education Division at the Museum of Texas Tech University.
Would you mind sharing these with the Museum-L subscribers? 

-All 3 internships are full-time, one-year, paid positions.

The Museum of Texas Tech University is the university museum for Texas Tech University, a State of Texas institution of higher education, located in Lubbock, Texas.  Lubbock is located in western Texas, approximately 5 hours west of Dallas, Texas, two hours south of Amarillo, Texas; and six hours east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Travel to Lubbock may be made by car and/or by air via the Preston Smith International Airport. Southwest Airlines and other commercial carriers service the Lubbock airport.

--- Internship #1: Development of Docent Learning Materials ---

- Internship position opening -
Job description: Graduate Intern, Museum Education (paid, full-time)
Reports to: Curator of Education, Museum of Texas Tech University

Description: The Education Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University supports this full-time position for graduate-level students, and most recent graduates of masters degree programs, who intend to pursue careers in the fields of museum education, interpretation, and non-formal education.

Purpose of Internship: This internship will provide practical experience in developing materials for use in a new, docent-training program. The Museum houses collections and exhibitions related to art, history, natural science, and natural history. The selected candidate for this internship will participate in research, writing, and compilation of docent-training materials and supplies.

Length of Service: 
This full-time internship is for a period of twelve months  (January 2011 through December 2011). Starting date is flexible, preferably between January 1 and February 1, 2011.

Compensation: The Docent development internship pays $1700.00 per month.  Compensation for this internship does not include any benefits as funding is through the Museum’s support organization.  University credit is available when applicable.

Responsibilities and Duties: The graduate intern will, under direction of the Curator of Education:
- Research current practices, standards, and procedures for docent training;  - Request materials for review from other museum docent programs;    - Research, write, and compile docent materials for the creation and completion of a docent training course
Note: This internship is concerned only with the development of curriculum and the compilation of training materials; this internship will not be directly involved with docents, recruitment, or training.

Qualifications:
- Familiarity with concepts of museum interpretation and docent programs.
- Familiarity with informal learning.
- Outstanding research and writing abilities.
- Outstanding time management skills.
- Ability to be self-motivated, and display initiative.
- Ability to work well, both independently and with others.
- Ability to take direction and positive correction.
- Knowledge of research practices.
- Outstanding organizational skills.
- Ability to work successfully within time constraints, and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements:
This internship requires a moderate level of activity. The selected intern must be physically able to:
- Sit, stand, and walk for sometimes extended periods of time.
- Lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, reach, and kneel.
- Effectively use a laptop and/or desktop computer, as well as phone, fax, and/or email.

Description: The Education Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University supports this full-time position for graduate-level students, and most recent graduates of masters degree programs, who intend to pursue careers in the fields of museum education, interpretation, and non-formal education.

Purpose of Internship: This internship will provide practical experience in researching, writing, and developing educational materials for the Diamond M Gallery in the Museum of Texas Tech University. The intern will be responsible for creating lesson plans, a learning guide, a tour outline, and a set of gallery cards to support the ideas and collections of the Diamond M Gallery of American Art.

Length of Service: This full-time internship is for a period of twelve months  (January 2011 through December 2011). Starting date is flexible, preferably between January 1 and February 1, 2011.

Compensation: The Diamond M Gallery internship pays $1700.00 per month and benefits as applicable.  University credit is available when applicable.

Responsibilities and Duties: The graduate intern will, under direction of the Curator of Education:
- Work in collaboration with interested stakeholders and Museum staff in selecting, refining, and completing all materials in this project.
- Identify activities that are age appropriate for inclusion in lesson plans targeted to specific ages.
- Author three lesson plans for each targeted grade level (i.e., elementary, middle school, high school)
- Author a tour outline for each targeted grade level (i.e., elementary, middle school, high school).
- Author a Learning Guide suitable for diverse grade levels
- Write and compile the text for the creation of “gallery cards” that accompany images of selected works of art from the Diamond M collection.

Qualifications:

Purpose of Internship: This internship will provide practical training and experience in diverse aspects of museum education at a museum that houses collections and exhibitions related to art, history, natural science, and natural history. The selected candidate for this internship will participate in all aspects of public interpretation including planning, development, ordering/purchasing supplies, implementation, and evaluation.

Length of service: This full-time internship is for a period of twelve months  (January 2011 through December 2011). Starting date is flexible, preferably between January 1 and February 1, 2011.

Compensation: The Education Division internship pays $1700.00 per month and benefits as applicable. University credit is available when applicable.

Responsibilities and Duties: The graduate intern will, under direction of the Curator of Education:
- Develop and teach classes and workshops throughout the year for area  children, youth, and adult audiences.
- Assist with planning and implementation of public programming initiatives, including: workshops, tours, and outreach programs.
- Assist with improvements to traveling trunks.
- Assist in the design and preparation of materials, games, and other activities to enhance  traveling and permanent exhibitions.
- Assist with visitor service (such as registration for classes, answering phones, helping at public events, answering questions).
- Assist with other division activities as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Understanding of and familiarity with non-formal education, and, interactive teaching theory and methods;
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;
- Strong organization and research skills;
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple, diverse tasks, with overlapping  deadlines. Ability to request help when needed.
- Self-motivation to achieve goals and to complete assignments, either individually and/or with others.
- Experience in interacting positively and effectively with people of  diverse backgrounds, education, ages, experiences.
- Computer proficiency; skill with Photo Shop and In Design desired.
