Dear Colleague:

You are cordially invited to register at this time for the seventh
annual WebWise Conference on Libraries and Museums in the Digital World,
to be held February 15-17, 2006, at the Omni Hotel in Los Angeles. The
conference is sponsored annually by the Institute of Museum and Library
Services and is co-hosted this year by the Online Computer Library
Center and the J. Paul Getty Trust.

This year's theme is "Inspiring Discovery-Unlocking Collections" The
conference will feature presentations and panel discussions by library,
museum and other information experts engaged in enhancing the
"discoverability" of cultural heritage resources. Topics include new
discovery tools and techniques, such as automated indexing, and
re-examination of traditional information organization and discovery
methodologies. In addition, exemplary digital projects will be
showcased in demonstrations scheduled during 45-minute break periods on
February 16, to encourage networking and information sharing. There
will be a reception for conference participants on Wednesday evening.

Three half-day pre-conferences requiring separate registration will be
offered on Wednesday, February 15: 1) Cataloging Cultural Resources: 2)
Creating Sharable Metadata: and 3) Assessing the Use of Digital
Resources. Separate registration for pre-conference workshops is
required.

I hope very much that you can attend the WebWise Conference this year.
The preliminary agenda and registration information are available at
http://www.getty.edu/webwise2006/conference. The full conference agenda
will be posted in January. There are no fees for the conference or for
the pre-conference workshops, but early registration is recommended as
space is limited.

A limited number of sleeping rooms have been reserved at the conference
hotel. Details about telephone and on-line reservations can be found
under the "Hotel and Travel" section of the conference web site.

If you have questions, please contact Matt Burdetsky, Capital Meeting
Planning, Inc. at (703) 536-4993 or [log in to unmask] We look forward to
seeing you in February.

Sincerely,

Mary L. Chute, Acting Director
Institute of Museum and Library Services
