The other main benefit is the satisfaction of providing unrestricted funds
to support that organization, without requiring them to spend money on
various membership premiums!

Most of our donors are members first, and give additional donations to the
annual fund. They also have the option of upgrading their membership and
receiving increased benefits. We are a small organization and are just
starting to encourage members to donate in other ways. We are planning an
annual fund mailing this spring; so far we solicit annual fund donations by
including a line on our regular membership form that people can check to put
money towards a donation rather than a membership level.
