DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
The Autry Museum of Western Heritage, a major cultural institution in
Griffith Park with an annual operating budget of over $9 million, seeks to
hire a Development Associate immediately. She/He will work as a integral
member of a five-person development/membership team to generate revenue
for special and permanent exhibitions, educational programs, art and
artifact acquisition, galleries, collections care, general operations,
endowment, and capital improvements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting directly to the Director of Development, the Development
Associate will:
*  Assist in designing and implementing comprehensive fund-raising
strategies for the museum. Generate ideas and conduct programs designed to
stimulate overall membership and fund-raising efforts.

*  Identify and research prospects for corporate sponsorship, foundation
grants, government funding, and individual gifts. Write proposals to
targeted prospects. Prepare budgets for   and monitor progress of   grant
applications.

*  Correspond and interact in person with high-level business leaders,
foundation directors, government agency contacts, and high net worth
individuals.

*  Oversee activities to promote the museum's planned giving program. This
includes coordinating and distributing printed materials, maintaining and
developing the list of planned giving prospects, and coordinating and
helping to find speakers for quarterly seminars.

*  Follow up on projects and tasks, as needed, including fulfillment of
all reporting requirements of funding sources as well as donor recognition
programs, and writing direct mail solicitations.

*  Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ABILITIES
*  Excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Good
observation and listening abilities. Clear and concise communicator.

*  A demonstrated ease and an ability to gain cooperation when working as
a contributing member of a team staffed with individuals at all levels of
management and from a variety of backgrounds.

*  Effective performance when juggling and re-prioritizing multiple
assignments in a fast-paced, changing workplace.

*  Reliability in following through on assigned projects in a complete,
well-conceived, and timely manner.

*  Excellent computer skills. Prefer experience with Windows software and
FundMaster.

*  Knowledge of basic fund-raising and marketing principles. Desire to
learn and understand planned giving methods.

*  Requires a minimum of two years' experience in development, marketing,
or related field within the museum, university or other non-profit
setting.

SALARY RANGE:   Depends on experience. Salary is expected to range from
low to mid 30's.
