Bill,

A good way to start out is to arrive each day with a specific goal, 
such as making a connection with a certain number of people. Keep it 
small and workable within your own comfort level, but push yourself a 
bit. Amy's suggestion that you review the attendee list is important. 
You may find people listed who you've already met, or have wanted to 
meet. Definitely have business cards. Exchange them with people and 
follow up with contacts after the conference when you feel it's 
appropriate.
