Digital watermarks are basically a way to identify that the digital file is
your property. Most watermarks do not keep people from stealing your file or
printing your file are copying your file. BUT, they do mark it as your
property, so if you find it on another site you have some leverage.

Some digital watermarks are easy to remove if you decrease the resolution of
the file for example, enough of the watermark is obliterated that it is no
longer detectable.

They are not good if you want them to stop theft. They are good if you want
them to mark you files as your property.
