Coordinator of Communications and Online Learning
Full time position
Available mid to late June, 2012

Heritage Preservation, a national nonprofit organization in Washington, DC, dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the United States, is seeking an individual for the position of Coordinator of Communications and Online Learning.

The person in this position (the Coordinator) will develop content and messaging for all Heritage Preservation's communications efforts.  The Coordinator will be responsible for Heritage Preservation's web site, news releases, and participation in social media.  The Coordinator will also develop content for and edit Update, Heritage Preservation's quarterly electronic newsletter.  The Coordinator will supervise staff who develop and maintain mailing lists and contractors who handle the technical requirements of the web site.
  
In the area of online learning, the coordinator will assist the Vice President for Collections Care in management of Heritage Preservation's programs of online education.  Responsibilities include daily management of www.connectingtocollections.org, coordinating scheduling for live chats and webinars, assisting in the recruitment and training of speakers, producing and hosting live events, providing technical support for participants, conducting participant evaluation of the effectiveness of programming, and writing reports.

Other responsibilities of the position include supervision of Heritage Preservation's membership program, management of the two annual awards presented by Heritage Preservation, and organization of special and regularly scheduled events, such as meetings of the Board and membership.

The ideal candidate is required to possess excellent writing and editing skills, experience in promoting an organization or cause using both traditional and social media, experience in managing a web site, at least 2-3 years of work in an office, experience in project management and coordination with numerous colleagues, familiarity with cultural heritage institutions and issues, and a B.A. or equivalent.  Other skills and background that would be assets include experience working in a museum, library, archive, or organization related to cultural heritage, knowledge of HTML coding, experience with FileMaker Pro, and an advanced degree in museum studies, library science, conservation, or communications.

The salary for this position will be in the $40-$50,000 range, depending on experience.  An excellent benefit package includes Metro commuting coverage.  The position is full time at 37.5 hours per week; the hours are 9-5:30.  Relocation expenses will not be covered.
