Re: Governance of Museums etc.

Although not overseeing the state library, the Pennsylvania Historical and
Museum Commission (PHMC) was created in the '40s or '50s in order to govern
the activities of the PA State Archives and PA State Museum. It is still
the division that deals with preserving PA's historic/cultural heritage.

Subject: Governance of Museums, Libraries, and Archives

Could colleagues suggest the names of institutions that operate a museum, a
library and an archive under a single governance structure? The Office of
Cultural Education, within the New York State State Education Department,
oversees three major institutions: the New York State Museum, the New York
State Library, and the State Archives and Records Administration. We are
interested in finding out about the various governance structures and
administrative operations of institutions similar to ours. Many thanks
