Amy,
I am a 1989 graduate of the GWU Museum Studies program. I was very happy
with it and felt confident, upon graduation, that I had a firm knowledge of
museum methods and techniques. The GWU program is unique in its location in
DC and takes advantage of that. Many of the museum courses are taught by
museum professionals from the Smithsonian and other area museums. Marie
Malaro is also an authority on legal issues in museums; every museum where I
have worked or volunteered uses her book for reference. I made many
valuable contacts through my courses and through internships. I would also
recommend that you start volunteering at museums now in order to gain
preliminary experience. I would highly recommend the program as well as the
museum field. While it is a very competive field, it is also challenging
and exciting. Please contact me if you have any questions.
