We suddenly seem to be getting several postings a week which are
unreadable as e-mails, apparently because they are written as HTML files
(in full colour if you go to the trouble of downloading them and open them
in a web browser!)

The trouble seems to be coming mainly (though perhaps not exclusively)
from those on Hotmail using the Netscape mail facility.

Checking the Netscape Help file I think that in such cases the e-mail
system - I assume via the default "Preferences" during installation or
upgrading - is set to convert all out-going mail messages into full colour
HTML (web) documents instead of plain text.

According to the Help file, to correct this you should open your Netscape
mail system, then click on the "Edit" menu at the top. In this choose
"Preferences" and the go down to "Formatting for Mail and Newsgroup
Preferences". This gives you two choices: use of the HTML [=web] editor,
or the plain text editor. See if this option is set to HTML: if so,
change it to Plain Text Editor and exit using the confirm or OK button at
each stage as the Edit system closes. "(Help" also warns that you have
the choice of allocating either editor - as above - to each person in the
address book, so this might explain why some people receive the mail OK
while others - e.g. Museum-L members - are getting blank messages or big
full-colour HTML files which can't be read in most e-mail systems.
