Marketing Manager
Museum of the Earth at the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI)

The Museum of the Earth is a major new exhibits and education facility
dedicated to telling the history of the Earth and its life, and the science
by which we understand it. The Museum is an expansion of the
Paleontological Research Institution, which cares for one of largest
research collections of fossils in North America and publishes the longest
running paleontological journals in the Western Hemisphere. PRI has active
programs in Earth science education both locally and nationally and an
ambitious schedule of temporary exhibits. PRI/Museum of the Earth is
located in Ithaca, NY, which lies within the beautiful Finger Lakes region
of Central New York State.

We seek a Marketing Manager to execute a long range marketing plan focusing
on maximizing visitation to the Museum of the Earth and Museum store,
memberships, participation in educational programming, visitation to new
exhibits, rental of the Museum facilities, participation in events, and
volunteering in the Museum and at PRI. The marketing Manager will:
- manage all marketing communications (including website, brochures,
advertising);
- conceive, develop, coordinate, implement and manage special marketing
events (e.g., Community Day and Dino Holiday Party);
- work with the Director of Development and Communications to ensure
accuracy of distributed information and work on marketing fund raising
programs;
- manage current community collaboration relationships (e.g., Discovery
Trail and Tourism Trial) and research and identify other possible
collaborations locally, regionally, and nationally;
- actively build relationships with key community members to increase our
local and regional visitor/customer base;
- develop and implement strategy for cultivating community relations with
local agencies, businesses, and colleges (e.g., Cornell Univ and Ithaca
College); and
- cultivate relationships with media partners, including sponsorship
opportunities.

The Marketing Manager will work closely with the Development and
Communications staff to ensure that PRI is a vital and active institution
and that the Museum enables PRI to reach a greater number of people with
whom to share its mission. This person will interface with all members of
the staff, especially Museum operations, development and communications
(including membership), education, and exhibits.

Requirements: BS Degree and/or in Marketing, Communications, or related
field. 3-5 years in marketing experience. Knowledge of Tompkins County or
Central New York culture and economy is a plus. Strong interpersonal and
influence management skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate
effectively. Ability to work independently important. Must be able to make
sound decisions under deadline pressures, must be flexible and willing to
handle details and coordinate work. Ability to complete projects of varying
sizes.

Review of applications begins immediately. Please send a cover letter
describing your interest in the position, resume, and list of three
references to: Human Resources, Paleontological Research Institution, 1259
Trumansburg Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
