Stacy,

Try contacting someone at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum in NYC. They
have a small patch (about 1sq.ft.) of untouched wall coatings in each
restored room.

Subject: preserving wallpaper

Our historic house museum is undergoing a historic renovation and we would
like to preserve the many layers of wallpaper in some of the rooms. We are
interested in preserving it in place, on the wall, but aren't quite sure how
to do this. One of the ideas we discussed is to take a picture frame with
glass or plexiglass and simply mount it on the wall over the area in
question. Another idea is to put some kind of preservative coating over the
area and then frame it but there is some concern about yellowing taking
place under the coating.

If anyone has had experience in preserving wallpaper or more ideas on how
this could be done, I would like to hear from you.

Thanks
