Hi All!

I just signed on to this list today, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I'm a 26 year old young woman with a BA in Art History from a small New
England liberal arts school. I want to continue my education, and
eventually get into museum work...but I need some advice on the program(s)
of study I should follow, and what will get me the best background for the
field I want to pursue. I have quite a bit of interest in Interior Design,
Architecture and Historic Preservation, and I would love to work for a
Historic Property or decorative arts museum. I really want to be involved
in designing the layout of exhibits, display, cataloguing, etc...

I have done some research into programs offered across the country, but I
really need some advice and ideas from people who are currently working in
the field. What would you suggest that I get my masters degree in? There
are quite a few universities that offer an Art History Masters degree, but
very few (that I've found) that offer programs in Museum Studies and
Historic Preservation. Will it be necessary for me to pursue my PhD as well?

Help! Any and ALL advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.

- Lisa M. Friedrich
