Lois Lindauer Searches is proud to partner with the J. Paul Getty Trust in its search for a Senior Officer for Institutional Advancement. This position presents an extraordinary opportunity for a seasoned development professional to play a senior leadership role in an ambitious and growing team, in a preeminent institution with two spectacular physical locations.

The J. Paul Getty Trust is a cultural and philanthropic institution dedicated to critical thinking in the presentation, conservation, and interpretation of the world's artistic legacy. The Trust was established in 1953 initially to support the Museum which housed Mr. Getty’s collection. When Mr. Getty died, he left his entire estate to the Trust for “the diffusion of artistic and general knowledge.” The Trustees recognized that to meet both its promise and the obligations that promise conferred upon it, the Trust would require a bold vision. That vision was first articulated by the Trust’s inaugural President, Harold Williams, in the first year of his tenure: to create “the most important institution in the world in the field of art history, making a quantum difference in ways responsive to the needs perceived by the field while at the same time bringing to it a new vision and vigor because it can make possible the realization of projects previously out of reach.”

Under Williams’ leadership, the Getty developed a unique structure which has evolved over the years and presently is comprised of four interrelated programs living under the Trust’s umbrella. In this, the Getty resembles on the one hand a university because it is engaged in professional education and pure research locally and throughout the world and, on the other hand, it resembles a public, cultural institution, open to and serving a diverse public without privilege or prejudice.

In this newly-created position at the J. Paul Getty Trust, the Senior Officer for Institutional Advancement will be joining a new advancement team. Accordingly, s/he will work with senior leaders across the Trust, to define and exemplify a culture of philanthropy both internally and externally that reflects the Getty’s core values. S/he will play a key strategic-relationship-management role with a primary focus on advancing and maximizing the J. Paul Getty Museum’s ties with current supporters as well as identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new high-potential prospects. The successful candidate will actively manage a portfolio of 100-125 prospects with the goal of securing gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
