Regarding question numbers 1 and 2:

The Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science (a.k.a. Buhl Science Center) served as the primary science and technology museum in Pittsburgh from 1939 to 1991. As it was dedicated during the Great Depression, it was a relatively small museum at a total of 40,000 square feet. Exhibit galleries (five) consisted of 15,000 square feet of that space, plus 425-seat planetarium (65-foot diameter dome), 250-seat lecture hall, 800-volume science library, and siderostat-type observatory.
