Dear Erika,
We had the same situation a few years back. We did not want the safe drilled because it was an artifact too. We had several safe-crackers try to "manipulate" it open with no success. A third one offered to give it a try. It took him about a day and a half but he finally did it. I'm not sure how many locksmiths there are in Ketchikan but I would be looking for one who has skills at manipulating a safe open rather than drilling it. Perhaps you could entice one down from Juneau in return for some great PR. Good luck.
Sincerely,
David Ryan
