Position: Curator Assistant Internship
 
Position Eligibility: This position is open to currently registered students
or graduates of accredited Public History or Museum Studies programs.
 
Location: Garst Museum, 205 North Broadway, Greenville, OH 45331
 
About the Museum: The Darke County Historical Society, Inc. (DCHS) is
dedicated to preserving the history of the county and to furthering the
education of its citizens.  Its mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit,
study, and interpret materials relating to the history and culture of Darke
County, Ohio. The DCHS operates the Garst Museum in Greenville, Ohio and its
35,000 square feet campus houses over 300,000 artifacts. Permanent
exhibition subjects of national significance include Annie Oakley, the
Treaty of Greenville, Native Americans, and Lowell Thomas.
 
Position: The curatorial assistantıs responsibilities include research,
exhibition development, and artifact preservation. Current project subjects
include Lowell Thomas, military history, and Darke County history.
 
Job duties include but are not limited to:
-Artifact and object research
-Creating labels for exhibited artifacts
-Undertake exhibition research and create supporting materials such as
biographies, images, audiovisual enhancements, and interpretive information
-Compile educational material for primary and secondary schools
-Research, compile, and prepare written information about the museumıs
collection and exhibits
-Write about events, exhibitions, and present information about the museum
through internal and external publications
-Perform preventative conservation on collections

Duration: This internship can last an academic quarter or semester. The
internship can start upon completion of the application process. This is an
ongoing posting.
 
Compensation: The Garst Museum will provide a stipend of $500.00 per
300-hour internship. No other salary or stipend is available for this
internship.

records to Past Perfect and accessioning.

-Transferring collections records to Past Perfect
-Transfer procedure includes identifying, locating, researching, and
processing the artifact
-Collections accessioning
-Supervising volunteers working on accessioning
-Complete research on artifacts to assure proper documentation
