Job Posting: New Position

Director, Children’s Center.

Historic Deerfield, Inc., a museum of early American life in Deerfield,
Massachusetts, seeks creative, energetic individual to play critical
leadership role for new Children’s Center to open by fall 2002. This
Center will serve as a welcoming gateway to the Village of Historic
Deerfield for children, families and educators. This is an exciting
opportunity to join a staff team early in the project to conceive and
shape exhibitions, activities, and the facility. After opening, the
Director will continue to be responsible for all the child and
family-based programming of the institution. She/he will, in
collaboration with other professional staff, develop new programs and
train staff to carry them out; develop new exhibitions and oversee their
contracted design and production; administer the day to day workings of
the Center; collaborate pro-actively with regional and national
educators to develop and disseminate curricular materials; market
programs to families and educators; and oversee the ongoing fundamental
integration of children’s programming into the Historic Deerfield
visitor experience.

The ideal candidate will have background in child development and
informal learning with children, administrative and supervisory
experience, excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a
team. Strong interpersonal skills a must, as are the desire to
participate actively in the conceptualization and creation of programs,
enjoyment in the learning of history and a genuine enthusiasm for
working with children. Experience with changing exhibition strategies
around object-based learning a strong plus. Familiarity with the needs
of elementary school teachers and other educators an added advantage.
Reports directly to the Executive Director and is a member of Historic
Deerfield’s Management Team. Send cover letter, resume, and 3 references
to Executive Director, Historic Deerfield, Inc., PO Box 321, Deerfield,
MA 01342.
