I can't advise you on fire insurance negotiations but I have been involved in
several similar incidents--both thefts and fires--where I was retained on the
rebuilding team so that the insurer was aware that the museum was serious
about correcting problems. Problems can be system related (hardware) or
procedural and they will want to see that you have addressed both.

I try to avoid using this mailing list to advertise but if you happen to be
seeking the assistance of a protection consultant, please keep me in mind. We
do protection system design and specifications and we do protection surveys
and management consulting. We work exclusively in cultural properties and our
clients include Mount Vernon, National Park Service, Hearst Castle, Mansions
of Newport, Hermitage, Olana, Eastman House, etc.
