The Shelburne Museum seeks a highly organized individual to join the creative 
and energetic curatorial department of four (senior curator, associate curator, 
exhibits preparatory and archivist/librarian).  

Application Deadline:  January 22, 2007

Position Description:
With the exhibits preparator, this position has primary responsibility for the 
design, fabrication, and installation of temporary exhibitions of fine, decorative 
and folk art.  Monitors, maintains and improves, as directed, permanent 
exhibits and related label text, building signage and audio visual equipment on 
the Museum’s 37 building campus.  Work independently and collaboratively on 
exhibition activities with a diverse staff of curators, educators and buildings 
and grounds personnel.  Organizes and maintains exhibit shop and assists in 
ordering supplies and keeping equipment in working order.  Assists in packing 
and preparing for shipping fine arts artifacts designated for outgoing loans.  
Handles and moves fine and decorative arts using proper procedures.  Provides 
support for special events as needed.  Other duties as directed.

Qualifications:

B.A. degree, preferably in art or graphic design or equivalent experience

Demonstrated experience designing AV systems highly desirable.  Carpentry, 
lighting, electrical and/or painting experience required.  Matting and framing 
skills required.  Work experience in a museum preferred.  

Computer proficiency required, familiarity with autocad, publisher and 
photoshop software preferred.

Attention to detail, problem solving skills, ability to multi-task in a face-paced 
environment and working under deadlines essential.  

Ability to lift 40 pounds.

Compensation:

$26,000 per year plus benefits
