We are trying to get a sense of the number of museums that require donations
of artifacts be accompanied by cash donations for maintenance and
conservation of the artifacts, and what various institutions' guidelines are
for the cash donation. Does anyone out there have such a requirement? Do
you have a sliding scale for maintenance and conservation of a postcard as
opposed to a painting? Do you only require cash donations for maintenance
and conservation if the piece currently has problems, or is likely to
develop problems in the future due to the nature of the materials? Do you
require a cash contribution to cover the cost of maintenance only if there
are multiple and/or valuable items in the donation?
