(2) California Community Foundation Arts Funding
Initiative Offers Support to Los Angeles Artists and
Arts Organizations

Deadline: January 25, 2002

The California Community Foundation (
http://www.calfund.org/ ) Arts Funding Initiative
brings together the J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for the
Visual Arts, the Brody Arts Fund, and other foundation
funds to award more than $2.5 million to visual
artists and organizations in Los Angeles County from
2001 to 2004.

Grants in 2002 will be made to individual visual
artists; a special round of grants is also available
to grassroots visual arts organizations and to small
theaters that further the California Community
Foundation's philanthropic goals.

The five major goals of the Visual Arts Initiative are
to acknowledge the contributions of outstanding
mid-career visual artists in Los Angeles by enhancing,
encouraging, and nurturing artistic accomplishments;
to encourage and foster promising and emerging visual
artists in Los Angeles by supporting the early stages
of individual development; to support and develop
special artistic or cultural projects of unusual merit
that reflect the Los Angeles area's diverse
population; to improve access to cultural and artistic
programs among the diverse communities of Los Angeles;
and to support grassroots visuals organizations and
small theater companies that embody the cultural
richness of Los Angeles and foster broad artistic
excellence.

The program will award eight $15,000 fellowships to
individual artists in Los Angeles County -- five
awards to mid-career artists and three awards to
emerging artists.
For organizations, grants of up to $15,000 per
organization will be awarded to small visual arts
organizations and theater companies in Los Angeles.

See the California Community Foundation Web site for
complete guidelines and application procedures.
