POSITION TITLE:  Archaeological Curation Assistant(s).  Two openings.

LOCATION:  Billings, Montana.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  The Billings Curation Center is the repository for
all archaeological and ethnographic collections recovered from  federal
lands in Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota.  The purpose of the
repository is to properly store these materials, making them accessible
for future research.  The Curation Assistants are to meet this purpose by
assembling all associated documentation, catalog, and verify previous
identifications.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  Each intern will be assigned various
accessions and will be expected to take each collection through all
phases of the curation process.  Interns will complete registration,
cataloging, files searches, lithic identification, and archiving gray
literature.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A coursework background which includes North
American archaeology, Plains archaeology, and lithic technology.
Laboratory and/or collection's management experience would be most
beneficial.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  Reimbursement for meals and lodging will be
provided, not to exceed $750.00 per month.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Duration of project is expected to be approximately two
months.  Starting and ending dates can be negotiated to fit each
individual's academic schedule.

PROJECT SUPERVISOR:  David K. Wade, Curator of Collections, University of
Montana.

TERM OF POSITION:  Summer 1996

WHO MAY APPLY:  Applications will be accepted from currently enrolled
graduate and upper-level undergraduate students, as well as from recent
(within 1 year) graduates.
