There's still time left to apply for CAP!!

There are funds still available for the Conservation Assessment Program
(CAP), a non-competitive grant, awarded to museums on a first-come,
first-served basis. CAP is funded through the Institute of Museum and
Library Services (IMLS) and administered by Heritage Preservation. CAP
provides funds for small to mid-sized museums to hire a professional
conservator for a two-day visit. The CAP assessor uses these two days to
examine the museum's collections, environmental conditions, and sites. The
assessor then spends three days writing a report recommending priorities to
improve collections care. For museums with buildings older than 50 years,
the grant also provides additional funds for an architectural assessor to
identify priorities for care of the building(s). The reports submitted by
professional conservators can be tools for everyday use in the museum as
well as a basis to apply for further funding and for long-range planning.

The CAP application is simple and straightforward. To obtain an application,
contact Kristen Hoffmann, Program Assistant, at 202-634-0032 or

from www.heritagepreservation.org. There is a postmark deadline of December
1, 2001. However, a second deadline may be implemented if funds remain
after that date.
