I guess it all depends on the condition of the adhesive - new? Old? Soft? Brittle? If the adhesive is still soft, you might be able to gently separate them using a micro-spatula. I've also had some luck with freezing them. Encase the pages so condensation won't damage them. Sometimes this helps break the adhesion.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Photographs in Old Albums

Good Morning Muse-listers!
I believe this question has already been asked on here but I don't know to look at the archived conversations.
I'm processing an archival collection with 3 jam-packed photo albums and the photos need to come out. But of course the albums are the lovely "adhesive pages and plastic sheet covers" variety.
Any tips or tricks for getting the photos out of the album without shredding them? And I know they should go to a conservator but that's not happening.
Thanks in advance!

Mary "Kate" McCarthy
