Hope this is not too late for your trip - last year I stayed in former East
Berlin as I was with a US exhibition at Deutsches Historiches Museum.  The
hotel was Hospiz Augustrasse - near the old Jewish quarter with many new
galleries, coffee shopes and characters.  It may  have changed its name - I
believe it is run by the Evangelical Church -  lovely rooms, inexpensive,
wonderful breakfast room, and within walking distance to Museumsinsel -
that amazing island with 4 or 5 museums.  Address Augustrasse 82, tel.
