Executive Director

The Ethan Allen Homestead Museum seeks an Executive Director to continue

building the Homestead's audience and financial base, and to ensure its
long-term viability. Included in the museum’s current strategic plan are

implementation of the Discovery Learning Initiative and Family Learning
Initiative, major new programs funded through 2002.

Responsibilities
The Executive Director acts as chief administrator and curator of the
historic site and museum. The Executive Director is responsible to the
Board of Trustees, and reports to the Chair of the Board. Specifically,
the Executive Director:
? Holds primary responsibility for Homestead collections management;
? Directs interpretation and program planning and implementation,
delegating to the Program Director the duties specified in that
position's job description;
? Takes primary responsibility for fundraising, marketing and public
relations.
? Carries out administrative responsibilities;
? Maintains the security of the historic site;
? Performs other duties the board may require.

Qualifications
Qualifications for the position of Executive Director include an
advanced degree in museum studies, non-profit administration or
equivalent training and experience;   experience in non-profit, historic

site or museum administration; a record of successful fundraising;
proven team leadership skills; public speaking and expository writing
skills; and proven ability to work with trustees and volunteers. Also
advantageous will be knowledge of Ethan Allen and early Vermont history.

The Homestead
The Ethan Allen Homestead Museum and Historic Site’s mission is to
preserve for educational purposes the 1785 farmhouse of Ethan Allen,
reconstructed around surviving original portions, and a portion of the
surrounding land. Homestead is located in a public park owned by the
Winooski Valley Park District, from whom the museum holds a long-term
lease. The Homestead opened in 1989. A paid staff of four and 70
volunteers serve over 15,000 people annually with tours of the historic
site and museum from mid-May through mid-October, and other educational
programs year-round, drawing 5,000 schoolchildren annually.
