St. Mary's City, Maryland

Historic St. Mary's City, a living history museum and education center located on the site of Maryland's first capital (1634-1695), seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Site Supervisor for the Maryland Dove living history site. This site interprets maritime life aboard a replica square-rigged ship in the mid-1680s with a focus on trade and travel. Enthusiasm, team building, and a desire to learn 17th-century skills are desired qualities in the successful candidate.

The full-time position oversees daily site operations and is responsible for the supervision, training, and evaluation of permanent and seasonal interpretive staff, the development and presentation of interpretive programs and special events for the site, and outreach programming as scheduled. Outreach programs require travel and occasional overnights. In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating and/or assisting in maintaining the exhibit area and exhibit items, making budget recommendations and site purchases, and maintaining administrative records.

Effective communication skills, ability to conduct historical research, and experience in staff supervision required. Three years experience at a living history museum in first-person interpretation is highly desirable. Salary: $25,000 plus excellent benefit package.

Position closes June 22, 2001.
