Danita-
If you have not already done so, go to the library and
look up "Burkland" in signature books.  This way you
can make sure that you are researching the correct
person.
If you have already checked references like "Who was
Who in Art" and "Davenports" I would go to the New
York Public Library website.  Check their database.
If you don't find anything you can call the library
and ask to speak to the art department.
Finally, you said that August P. Burkland died in
Pasedena in 1927.  Try to get a hold of a library
there and see if they can pull the death notices for
that year.
