Adrienne,

One possibility is to take advantage of the concept of "remembrance" and
conduct oral histories with the idea of creating some programming out of the
results. Students at the high school might help in the collection -- you
could present mini-workshops on how to do it.

For the programming part of it, you could use either museum theatre (which I
have done several times on various topics), have an interpreter present the
material, or do on-site interviews with the informant 'on stage" with an
interviewer and fielding questions from both the interviewer and the
audience. If you go the theatre route, you will need a playwright, actors,
director (although students can fill some of those roles as part of their
experience.) I have found that informants are always pleased to see their
stories on stage in some form.

If you use an interpreter to present the material, someone will have to
organize the material and select the best stories and events.

If you do create a theatre piece or an interpreter telling stories, you
might also send it out to the schools and to community organizations as
outreach, since the program is already developed.

Good luck,
