I have to agree with Diane -
What got my applications more attention than anyone else was what was
unique.  No stock phrases or information.  My suggestion is, research the
museum you are applying to well. Know what they do - what is special
about them and show how you fit in with that.

Of course if you are sending out cold letters, this is much more
difficult to do.

I have never sent out cold letters.  I have applied for specific jobs
listed in regional newsletter or AVISO.  They have been jobs that I have
been especially qualified for.

When I have received cold letters, I have always replied to the sender,
but there has never been a situation where a position can be made for
them.  I still believe that applying for an actual opening is the best bet.
