My guess (being female and all) is that the Gopher format is
slightly non-standard and your client software doesn't know what
to make of it.  My client (PC Gopher III, ver. 1.03) works nicely,
but the files are flagged as <I> instead of the usual <B> for binary,
and it does not "see" a default file name.  But they download as
viewable .GIFs.  Very pretty, too.  I think I'll use Seti I as
my next Windows wallpaper.
 
While wandering around the Texas Gopher menu I also discovered
the Poultry server (from Texas A&M, I think), from which you can
fetch a nice picture of a flock of turkeys.
 
What did we ever do for fun before Internet?
