As many of you may know, the Small Museum Administrators Committee of the
American Association of Museums (SMAC-AAM) has successfully worked with the
the Meetings and Professional Education Department at AAM to establish a day
devoted to small museums at the 2004 Annual AAM Meeting in New Orleans.

The First Annual Small Museum Day at AAM is on Saturday, May 8, 2004. It
begins with the SMAC-AAM Annual Business Meeting - as a breakfast, rather
than lunch meeting. Each of the three program slots that day has a session
sponsored by SMAC-AAM and focused on a topic we feel is of major importance
to small museums. SMAC-AAM is also sponsoring an “Issues” lunch with a
speaker on a topic particularly relevant to small museums and a later
afternoon reception for small museum professionals (and their friends).

This focused day will allow those of us with restricted budgets and limited
time to get as much as possible in a single day. For those who can attend
more than one day, there will also be SMAC-AAM sponsored sessions on other
days of the Annual Meeting, including a Marketplace of Ideas on Friday (May
7) and a leadership workshop especially for directors of small museums on
Monday (May 10).
