Hello all!
I just wanted to chime in with a different angle. I worked in theatre
properties for three years before I switched to museum work. The transition
was made easier by having worked for an extremely persnickety properties
manager who only tolerated props that looked good from two feet away.
Luckily, they also read fine from 100 feet away, and didn't get washed out
by the lights. I think the disciplines go well together, because drama makes
history and science exciting to the non-historian and non-scientist. Also,
theatre people always work to tight deadlines and routinely have to solve
difficult physical problems to make their props function in special (or even
mundane) ways for six-week show runs. In the horn-tooting department, I
humbly direct you to see some of this work on Up-Close Realism's website on
the sculpture page at www.dioramists.com. Thank you very much.

Cordially,

Paul N. Pallansch
Dioramist and Sculptor,
Up-Close Realism
